A fortnight ago, I shared the first Star Lover Mandala Collection of three (3) stars, 10-point, 9-point and 8-point star mandalas and promised another three (3) stars this week. 

In the meantime, I also decided to create at least two (2) designs for each star mandala which will include 7-point, 6-point and 5-point star mandalas.

Unfortunately, I am running behind in my timetable, due to nerve pain in my left arm, resulting in the minimal use of my left hand, affecting the ability to hold onto the yarn and control the tension, so my crocheting is very slow and I am reduced to one hand typing as well.

Therefore I am going to share with you at least the first two (2) designs I have created for the 7-point star, and then post the other designs in separate blogs as soon as I am able to put them to paper. Hopefully within the next week or so.

Star Lover 4 Mandala

I started with the 7-point star (a heptagram) and while researching about seven-point stars came across some interesting information. 

Throughout history, the number seven (7) has been mentioned in different cultures, religion and the occult. 

It can be -

• the seven directions that magick comes from North, East, South, West, Above, Below and Within. 
• the seven points of the chakra. 
• the seven-pointed star could represent the seven gifts of the Spirit - wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, fear of the Lord, and delight in the Lord. 
• in alchemy, a seven-sided star can refer to the seven planets which were known to ancient alchemists.
• in Christianity to symbolize the seven days of creation and became a traditional symbol for warding off evil.
• the heptagram is a symbol of perfection (or God) in many Christian sects.
• the heptagram is known among neopagans as the Elven Star or Fairy Star.
• a sacred symbol in various modern pagan and witchcraft traditions.
• a 7-pointed star which is used for some Sheriff badges in the USA.

and the list continues. 

Truly amazing!  I thought it was information worth sharing and if you want to know more go ahead and research the magic of seven. That's if you can put down your crochet hooks long enough? LOL

My Star Designs

Here are my original and unique Star Lover 4 Mandala designs including both 7-point stars, the first pattern is called Star Lover 4 Mandala and the second 7-point star pattern is called Star Lover 4 Mandala V2 (version 2).

Yarn Used

DMC Petra 3 was used in the STAR LOVER 4 Mandala and for the other stars I have used Wendy Supreme Luxury Cotton 4ply a 100% mercerised cotton yarn, it has a beautiful shine and is smooth and supple, and comes in a variety of modern shades. I have used this cotton yarn for numerous designs and always love coming back to using it over and over again. I have kept the star mandalas simple again by using just one colour, however, you can go ahead and change colours at your leisure.

MEASUREMENTS: Diameter 4.5in (11.5cm) approximately

YARN USED: DMC Petra 3 ● 100% Mercerised Cotton ● 100g 280m (306yds)● Shade: 5742

YARN ALTERNATIVES: Any similar mercerised cotton. Always check Yarnsub website for the best match.

TOTAL YARDAGE: approx. 3.25g = 9m (9.8yds)

TENSION: Not critical to this pattern

NOTIONS: 2.5mm hook; Yarn needle.

Rnd 1: Magic loop, ch1, 7sc in loop, join with sl st in ch1. (7sts)

Rnd 2: Ch3, 1dc in same st, *ch2, 2dc in next st, rep from * around, join with sl st in 2nd ch of ch3. (28sts)

Rnd 3: *Ch4, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1hdc in next ch, 1dc in next ch, skip 2sts, sl st in next 2sts, rep from * around, join with sl st in first ch of ch4.

Rnd 4: *Ch5, 1sc in point of star, ch5, sl st in 2nd sl st, rep from * around.

Rnd 5: Ch1, *3sc in ch5-sp, 3sc in sc, 3sc in ch5-sp, rep from * around, join with sl st in ch1.
