LONG TAIL ELF PIXIE HAT Crochet Pattern for DK Yarn

Are you looking for a crochet pattern for a "long tail elf pixie hat"?

You know those cute little hats they use in photography shots of cute little newborn babies?

And, after looking, there seem to be a few patterns floating around - however you would like the pattern for a DK yarn using a 4mm hook.

Well, look no further, because you have found it.

This little pattern is the result of a recent request from a new customer - simply she asked if I could write a pattern for a "long tail elf hat" using DK yarn.

And as I am always up for a challenge, I proceeded to create this  -

Yes, this hat looks just like any other long tail crochet hat that you can find somewhere else, but the difference with this crochet pattern is, it is written for DK yarn using a 4mm hook.

And the big bonus is a totally unique designed -  "baby safe" pom pom.

OH and whilst on the topic of pom poms, basically I hate them. I have always hated them and I simply refuse to make them. Naturally, I would not have a standard made pom pom anywhere near my baby, the thought of all those loose yarn ends shedding off fibres, or coming loose, simply makes me cringe!

Here is a snippet from "A Guide to the Safety of Children's Clothing" Any small parts that have been attached to the garment must be secure (not detach at less than 70 Newtons, which is a force of approximately 7kg) to avoid becoming a choking hazard. Small parts are very dangerous to children under 36 months. Items to bear in mind include; any buttons, beads, bows, tassels, pom-poms, sequins, diamantes, fasteners and labels.

For many years, I have been concerned about baby and child safety in regards to clothing, and my biggest NO NO has been small parts which can be a choking hazard, therefore, you can appreciate why I am not a fan of pom poms, among other things.

The POM POM SAFETY solution: I created my very own original design "baby safe" pom pom, to achieve the look required with this long tail crochet hat.  No loose yarn ends or yarn fibres which can loosen and separate from the garment AND cause a choking hazard.  THIS POM POM is SAFE and ever so simple.  All you do is crochet it!

Made with cotton yarn which I think is probably the best yarn for newborn babes.
