PIXIE BABE... SIMPLY PERFECT
Best Ever Crochet Baby Hat
In 2004, I designed a simple and easy pixie baby hat, and it made a big hit at my market stalls in Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia and Spitalfields, London, UK. To date, PIXIE BABE has been the most admired and best seller baby hat for newborns and toddlers. It has given me, family, friends and customers much pleasure over the years. And TODAY, I have decided it is time to share this delightful crochet pattern with the world, and I hope you enjoy making, gifting and using this simple pixie hat.
PATTERN DETAILS:
Description:
A simply perfect crochet pattern for a pixie hat. Make this hat for newborn, toddler or young ones – this pattern is so easy it can be adapted to varying head sizes and different yarns and hook sizes. Have some fun and play with the colours and create your own style of pixie hat!
Yarn:
PIXIE BABE HAT PATTERN is EASY and YOU can make it using any yarn. My favourite yarns for this hat are: Bendigo Cotton 4ply or 8ply (my preference for newborns), 3ply or 4ply baby wool OR my other favourite yarn for winter babies Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK OR Rowan Belle Organic DK.
YOU CAN ALSO make the pixie hat using bamboo yarn, cotton/silk blend and cotton/cashmere blend.
Over the last eight (8) years, I have made hundreds of pixie hats from this pattern; it is so simple and so easy to adjust to different yarns and different hook sizes. May you enjoy playing with it as much as I have.

I absolutely loved this pattern. I made both hats and they were very easy. And turned out fantastic. Very easy to follow. Kelsey Jan 2015
Very easy to follow pattern! Love the 2-in-1 with options for a cotton lining. Worked up the "Sweet" in one evening for my brother and it was just what he was hoping for in a beanie. Elizabeth G. Feb 2014
Both patterns are easy to read. Received patterns instantly. Nice deviation from the standard men's beanie, can't wait to give for Christmas gifts. Would purchase from this seller again. 2b3c Oct 2014
I named this crochet hat pattern "SWEET DUDE" after my man who is just that "a super sweet dude".

BABY PIXIE HATS for a New Year
HAPPY NEW YEAR Crochet Baby Hats
Here is my first crochet hat pattern for 2012. I designed the hat in late 2011, however with all the festive celebrations and family gatherings and New Year, it has been sitting on the back burner waiting for the final day of release.
This crochet pattern is a colourful little pixie hat for your little one, with a super cute "baby safe" pom pom on top. It is crochet in single crochet and ever so easy. Make any size you like starting from newborn to toddler, child to adult. There are Hints on size adjustment in the pattern.
I made this POM POM baby hat with James C. Brett Pure Merino DK, which is ever so soft and delicate, the perfect little warmer for those cold winter days. I used a 4.5mm hook for this hat even though the yarn label recommends a 4mm hook, because the elasticity of the yarn is quite strong, and I am sure you could easily use a 5mm hook and still get a good looking hat.
Pattern Details:
Skill Level: Easy
Yarn: James C. Brett "Pure Merino DK"
Hook: 4.5mm

A Man Cowl
Knitting this EXTRA LONG cowl for my darling man, has been taking up most of my time. It is a very interesting and eye catching pattern, using simple purl and knit stitches placed in pattern sequence to create the stunning look.
What has been very taxing on my brain is the 18 pattern rows repeated continuously and each row different. No wonder it took me a while to finish, this was not a pattern where I could remember the 18 row sequence at all.
Anyway my man loves his cowl, he can wrap it around his neck twice. I joined the finishing edge with the starting edge, just a simple cowl ONE BIG LOOP.
I made the cowl with a gorgeous yarn from ROWAN called Cocoon made from a blend of merino wool 80% and kid mohair 20%, this luscious yarn helps to bring out the cable-like design just perfectly, and it is ever so, so, soft.
As much as I love the look and feel of this cowl and I would simply love to make one for myself, I really don't think I could bring myself to make it again very soon, having to keep track of every row simply was too much for my brain, I didn't find it a relaxing experience. However that is me, the pattern instructions are very clear and easy to follow, so if you are looking for a knitting pattern for a scarf with a wonderfully fantastic textured cable-like design then this is the perfect pattern.
MY PATTERN DETAILS
YARN: Rowan Cocoon 100g - 115m (126yd)YARDAGE: 3 x 100g - 345m (377yd)
Yarn colour: Tundra 808
Measurements: approx. Width 8in (20cm) x Length 56in (142cm)
Needles: 6mm
I knitted the cowl with a thicker yarn and larger needles than suggested in the Knit Pattern, and ended up with a wider scarf, but it's not an issue for the end result.
This knit scarf pattern was designed by Deniss A. Saganai and it is called AMEETA SCARF.
AMEETA SCARF KNIT PATTERN is available as a FREE Download from RAVELRY the link is HERE.

Winter warmers - MITTENS crochet
Time to rug up
A decent drop in temperature overnight, 1 degree celsius at 7am this morning. How do I know? I was out in it, ice covered windscreens to boot. Not complaining, we have had a very mild autumn here in UK.
Perfect timing
So, the colder weather is perfectly timed with my latest pattern for full crochet mittens. I made these mittens for myself, just love these DEBBIE BLISS yarns
Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed Aran is a wool/angora blend. So if you love tweedy yarns but prefer something softer, this is the yarn for you.
Debbie Bliss Fez is a camel hair/merino mix and is simply stunning and ever so soft.
Both yarns are delicious to work with, and both yarns soften and relax the more you work with them.
Both yarns are delicious to work with, and both yarns soften and relax the more you work with them.
I am sure you will just love these yarns, the tweed is non-scratchy and there is also a great range of colours, do check it out.
PATTERN NOTE:
Unfortunately, I had to buy a second ball of the Donegal Tweed yarn to finish the last 4-5 rounds of the mitten and the thumb section. DOH!
However, if you were to use more of the Fez for the rib band you should be able to make the mittens using only 1 ball of each yarn.
Pattern Details:
Easy crochet mittens with simple rib cuff and rice stitch over the palm. Optional wristband.
Worked in rounds starting at the cuff. No seams to sew.
Wear the mittens on either hand.
Pattern is the same for both left and right mittens.
Size: Ladies M/L = medium to large
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed Aran 2 balls; and Debbie Bliss Fez 1 ball
Hook: 5mm
Terminology: USA - AMERICAN crochet terms
This pattern can be adapted to other yarns.

STAR LIGHT STAR BRIGHT
Where do you get your crochet inspiration?
This year my Christmas Decos inspiration came from this famous Van Gogh painting known as "Starry Night" and also from Don McLean's lyrics "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)"
Stars, Sky, Moon, Christmas Night
See those lovely stars in the sky, swirling blobs of white and yellow? obviously Van Gogh's sky is beautifully exaggerated with the brilliance of the stars. However, I do love this painting. Something very soothing and comforting about it!
What do you think? Does it inspire you to create?
Well it definitely inspired me and here are my Christmas Decos for this year, something you can also add to your last minute TO DO LIST!
I've created three little motifs to be hung on the tree or along a string garland, or anywhere that takes your fancy. You can make a lovely garland and hang in the window or above your fireplace, add some starry starbursts, swirls and starshine and liven up your festive scene.
CHRISTMAS DECOS include the following motifs:
- Starburst
- Swirls
- Starshine
PATTERN DETAILS:
Skill Level: Easy
Yarn: Patons Cotton DK or 4ply; Metallic Gold and Cotton Thread OR any other similar yarn.
Hook: 2.5mm, 3mm or 3.5mm dependent on yarn
Stitches: sc, dc, hdc, tr
Terminology: USA - American crochet terms
With this pattern you can play and have a bit of fun. The pattern is simple and easy, you can make the motifs in ONE (1), TWO (2) OR THREE (3) COLOURS. Instructions are given in the pattern, however you can change when you like. Make them colourful or simply pure white and/or gold.
You can make a variety of colourful motifs, as well as many different sizes, just by changing hook size and using various yarn weights.
