KNIT CROCHET BABY TOP VESTY

free knit patterns, baby top, sleeveless,

This is a great KNIT pattern for a sleeveless baby topwith a little bit of crochet around the neck and armholes.

This was a wonderful quick project, I really needed a break from crochet and remembered this stitch from way back, way, way back CIRCA  1980 I think.  My mother-in-law had knit a lovely baby cardigan using this stitch, and back then, I used the stitch to make a scarf/shawl.  Obviosly it took me ages to make the scarf, maybe that's why it remained embedded in the recesses of my brain... amongst all the other useful/useless stuff stored away in those grey cells.  Anyway let's get on with the pattern.

A Man Cowl

free knit patterns, cowl, scarf, infinity scarf

Knitting this EXTRA LONG cowl for my darling man, has been taking up most of my time. It is a very interesting and eye catching pattern, using simple purl and knit stitches placed in pattern sequence to create the stunning look.

What has been very taxing on my brain is the 18 pattern rows repeated continuously and each row different. No wonder it took me a while to finish, this was not a pattern where I could remember the 18 row sequence at all.

Anyway my man loves his cowl, he can wrap it around his neck twice. I joined the finishing edge with the starting edge, just a simple cowl ONE BIG LOOP.

I made the cowl with a gorgeous yarn from ROWAN called Cocoon made from a blend of merino wool 80% and kid mohair 20%, this luscious yarn helps to bring out the cable-like design just perfectly, and it is ever so, so, soft.

As much as I love the look and feel of this cowl and I would simply love to make one for myself, I really don't think I could bring myself to make it again very soon, having to keep track of every row simply was too much for my brain, I didn't find it a relaxing experience. However that is me, the pattern instructions are very clear and easy to follow, so if you are looking for a knitting pattern for a scarf with a wonderfully fantastic textured cable-like design then this is the perfect pattern.

I knitted the cowl with a thicker yarn and larger needles than suggested in the Knit Pattern, and ended up with a wider scarf, but it's not an issue for the end result.
