EASTER COASTER - SPRING CROCHET - FIVE PETAL COASTER - Free Pattern

I am going to share some brand new, never seen before Barbara Summers designs, some have been hiding in the bottom of the crochet projects box, and some are being designed on the spot as I crochet and write the blog.  So gather your yarns and hooks, get yourself a cuppa, and let's play, let's have some crochet fun!

I know Easter is just around the corner, and so is spring, therefore, this my first design is a light, bright, spring feel, Easter coaster.  Although you could also use it in other ways too.  Which we can discuss later after we have made one, two, three, or more.

Let's play - shall we?   

WHAT YOU NEED:  

Yarn:  Wendy Supreme Luxury Cotton Dk or similar DK yarn
Hook:  E-4 (3.5mm)
Notions:  Scissors, Yarn needle

PATTERN DETAILS:

DIFFICULTY:  Easy Intermediate

PATTERN NOTES:  You need to know how to colour change and crochet in the round.  Stitch guide: single crochet, treble crochet, standing sc, standing tr.

This pattern is written in USA - American Crochet Terms.

USA - American Crochet Terms	UK - British Crochet Terms
Ch = chain
sc = single crochet	dc =double crochet
hdc = half double crochet	htr = half treble crochet
dc = double crochet	tr = treble crochet
tr = treble crochet	dtr = double treble crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st/sts = stitch/es
cont = continue
rep = repeat
rnd = round
beg = begin/beginning
yo = yarn over	yrh = yarn round hook
FDC = foundationless double crochet	FTR = foundationless treble crochet
BL = back loop	blo = back loop only
FL = front loop	flo = front loop only
BPdc = back post double crochet	rtrb = raised treble back
FPdc = front post double crochet	rtrf = raised treble front

ADD THIS PATTERN TO YOUR RAVELRY QUEUE and FAVOURITES

PATTERN STARTS:

With MC
Rnd 1: Magic loop, ch1, 10sc in loop, sl st in ch1. (10sts)

Rnd 2: Ch4, tr in same st, ch1, *(2tr, ch1) in next st, rep from * around, invisible join.  Fasten off. (30sts)

Change to CC1
Rnd 3: Join yarn in any ch1-sp, with standing sc, *ch3, sc in next ch1-sp, rep from * around, join in middle of sc.

Rnd 4: *Ch6, sc in middle of next sc, rep from * around, invisible join.  Fasten off.

Change to CC2

Rnd 5: Join yarn in any ch6-sp, with standing tr, (2tr, ch1, 3tr) in same ch6-sp, *ch3, sc in next ch6-sp, ch3, (3tr, ch1, 3tr) in next ch6-sp, rep from * around, invisible join.  Fasten off.

Change to MC

Rnd 6: Join yarn in middle of any sc, with standing sc, *4sc in ch3-sp, sc in next 2tr, (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in ch1-sp, sc in next 2tr, 4sc in ch3-sp, sc in middle of sc, rep from * around, invisible join.  

Fasten off, hide ends.

NOW make more, four (4) or six (6) or eight (8) coasters, 

all depends on 

"how many do you need?"  

Try different colours.

Have some fun, have a play!

STARBURSTS, SWIRLS and STARSHINE - Free Pattern

Originally I made these with white,  yellow and gold thread, however I recently was asked for some star decos in other colours.  Of course I thought why not - and I have decided to share the colour process including step by step photos with you all here!  So grab your thread or yarn and hooks and lets start!

STARBURSTS

Change colour whenever you like.

Skill Level:	Easy
Yarn:	Cotton DK 8ply  ●  #3  ●  Light weight
Hook:	E-4 (3.5mm)
Stitches:	single, double, half double, treble crochet
Gauge/Tension:	Not critical for this pattern
Measurements:	Vary depending on yarn and hook
Terminology:	USA - American crochet terms

Rnd 1:  Magic loop, Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 9dc in loop, join with sl st in BL of ch3. (10sts)

Increase Rnd

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, 2sc in BL of same st, 2sc in BL of next st and every st to end, join with sl st in ch1. (20sts) 

Mini Star Points Rnd

Rnd 3:  *Ch3, sc in 2nd st from hook, hdc in next st, skip next st, sl st in next st, rep from * to end.  (10 mini star points)

Medium Star Points Rnd

Working behind mini star points

Rnd 4:  Sl st in 1^st skipped st under 1^st mini star from previous rnd, *Ch5, sc in 2^nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next ch, skip next mini star, sl st in next skipped st under next mini star, rep from * to end (5 medium star points)

1^st Star Edge

Crochet along edge of star points just made as follows:

Rnd 5: Sc in next 4sts, *2sc in top of star point, sc in BL of next 4sts, sc2tog, sc in next 3sts, rep from * to end, ending with skip last st, join with sl st in next st.

2^nd Star Edge

Working in BL of every st

Rnd 6:  Ch1, sc in BL of next 4sts, *[sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc] in next st, (top of star point), sc in BL of next 3sts, sc3tog, sc in BL of next 3sts, rep from * to end, ending with sl st in last st and join with sl st in both loops of ch1.

Finish, cut yarn and hide ends.

Now make as many as you like.

THIS TIME just for a bit of fun, I have decided to join two starbursts together.

Join with Sc in BL of each motif, 2sc in star point, and sc2tog in base of star points.
