ARROW Heads Crochet Patterns

Here are two more crochet designs for Winter 2017/2018 these designs are part of my ARROW Heads Collection.

For the men in your life, I chose a simple beanie design with an insertion of the arrow stitch. ARROW Winter Hat is the perfect winter warmer beanie, it's made using a chunky yarn for extra warmth and it has an optional cotton lining for comfort.

The pattern sizing is for adult large heads, (like my darlings), and will fit a 23in (58cm) head circumference, it is also long enough to cover his ears and protect them from the cold wind. If you wish to make smaller sizes you can easily adjust the sizing and decrease the length.

ARROW Hat is made with a yarn I have not used before, Stylecraft Life Chunky. I decided to give this yarn a try firstly because my darling loved the colour, Teal (2416), unfortunately, the colour teal does not show up in the photos. I like the fact it is a lovely blend of 75% acrylic and 25% superwash wool and comes in 100g balls, which simply equates to value for money. You only need 1 x 100g ball of Life Chunky to make this hat and only 1 x 100g ball of Cottonsoft DK for the optional lining.

This pattern is written in USA AMERICAN Crochet Terms.

DIFFICULTY: Easy

SIZES: One (1) size - Adult Large

MEASUREMENTS: Circumference 22in (56cm); Length 9in (23cm) - will fit 23in (58cm)

YARN USED: Stylecraft Life Chunky ● 75% Acrylic 25% Superwash Wool ● 100g ● 162yd (148m)

OPTIONAL LINING:

YARN USED: King Cole Cottonsoft DK ● 100% Cotton ● 100g ● 229yd (210m)

NOTIONS: 5mm hook, Yarn needle

PATTERN NOTES: Hat is worked top down in the round. Optional Lining instructions included. Photographs accompany the written instructions at the end of this pattern.

For the women in your life, I designed a headband based totally on using just the arrow stitch. ARROW Headband is simply perfect for keeping your ears warm while outdoors, I chose a chunky yarn for extra warmth and comfort and the easy arrow stitch pattern gives you a great looking headband.

The pattern sizing is for adult medium heads, (like mine), and will fit a 22in (56cm) head circumference, and the width of 4in (10cm) is easily wide enough to cover my ears and keep them warm and cosy. If you wish to make headbands for smaller heads, it is very easy to adjust the length.

To make the ARROW Headband I dug out a lovely chunky yarn from my stash of yarns. Wendy Mode Chunky is a soft blend of 50% premium acrylic and 50% Merino wool and is ever so comfy to wear, and it also comes in 100g balls. You can make two (2) headbands from 1 x ball of yarn, and still have some left over.

MEASUREMENTS: Circumference 20in (51cm); Width 4in (10cm) - will fit 22in (56cm)

NOTIONS: 5.5mm hook, Yarn needle

PATTERN NOTES: Headband is worked flat, then ends are joined with yarn needle. Photographs accompany the written instructions at the end of the pattern.

Week #5 of Let's Play - Crochet Fun

THIS WEEK #5 We continue the SPRING theme with a moebius (mobius) headband, not only perfect for keeping your hair back and out of the way, but also cute and stylish for those with short hair. And best of all quick to make and a great stash buster!

I have made this headband with remnants of cotton yarn left over from the making of the SPRING Coasters, using Wendy Supreme Luxury Cotton and Sparkle DK although ANY DK yarn would also work well.

LET'S PLAY

Let's begin this FREE PATTERN #5, gather your yarns and hooks, get yourself a cuppa, and let's play, let's have some crochet fun!

YARN: Wendy Supreme Luxury Cotton DK
HOOK: G-6 (4mm)
NOTIONS: Scissors, Yarn needle

PATTERN DETAILS:

DIFFICULTY: Easy Intermediate
Sizes: One size - Adult head - 22in (56cm) - size is adjustable

PATTERN NOTES: Headband is designed as a moebius (mobius) = a ring with a half-twist. The foundationless double crochet needs to be long enough to stretch to head size before joining, allowing for the twist, and stretch factor of yarn used.

You need to know how to crochet in the round and colour change. Stitch guide: single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, Special stitches: Esc = extended single crochet, FDC = foundationless double crochet.

ADD THIS PATTERN TO YOUR RAVELRY QUEUE AND FAVOURITES

PATTERN STARTS:

With MC and G-6 (4mm) hook

Rnd 1: FDC64, (21ins), twist, join with sl st in bottom of beg ch3.

Rnd 2: Sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc around, invisible join in top of ch3.

CHANGE TO CC1

Rnd 3: Join yarn with standing sc in top of ch3, sc around, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 4: Ch2, dc in next st, *ch1, dc2tog in next 2sts, rep from * around, invisible join in top of first dc.

CHANGE TO CC2

Rnd 5: Join yarn with standing sc in ch1-sp, *Esc between dc2tog, sc in ch1-sp, rep from * around, join with sc in 1st sc.

Rnd 6: *Ch2, skip next st, sc in next st, rep from * around, invisible join in first sc.

CHANGE TO MC

Rnd 7: Join yarn with standing dc in ch2-sp, 3dc in same ch2-sp, *sc in next ch2-sp, 4dc in next ch2-sp, rep from * around, invisible join in top of first dc. FASTEN OFF, HIDE ENDS.

Make as many as you like, change colours, change the yarn, change the hook, make different sizes - go play - have some crochet fun!

SPECIAL NOTES:

How to FDC = foundationless double crochet

Ch 3, yo, and insert your hook in 3rd ch from hook, yo, draw up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through one loop, (1ch made - this is the chain that you will work your next stitch into), NOW finish your first dc, [yo, draw through two loops on hook], 2 times (first dc made).
*Yo, insert hook under one loop of chain at bottom of stitch just made, yo and pull up loop, (3 loops on hook)
yo and draw through one loop (1ch made) [yo, draw through two loops on hook], 2 times,
Repeat from * for as many stitches as needed.

Joining:
When you have crocheted your foundationless dc row to the length you desire:-

• make sure you keep the row straight
• bring the two ends together
• then twist the beginning of your work
• sl st in the bottom of beginning ch3 (not the top)
• sc in next st
• hdc in next st
• dc in next st and remaining sts around
• your next rnd starts in the top of beg ch3

There will be a small opening (hole) between the beginning and end of FDC , where the twist and join was made, it can be stitched up with the yarn tail upon finishing.

NEW YEAR 2014 CROCHET

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

May you all have a wonderful 2014 year, crocheting and knitting many projects and conquering new techniques and stitches.

For the past 12 weeks I have been "down-under" travelling and visiting family, with NO TIME to crochet a stitch.

Now I am back in the UK and I am excited about all the ideas floating around in my head for new patterns and keen to get started.

As soon as I get over the jet lag which is forcing me to sleep way too early in the evening, resulting in the waking at 2.30am and patiently waiting for the clock to hit 4am so I can get up.

This too will change. And life will return to normal. I am confident it will.

For now I would like to thank everyone who has supported my creative work during 2013 and I am looking forward to sharing my new designs in 2014.
