WEEK #4 CALM HAT

Here we are in Week #4 for Sleep Hats, and I hope you enjoyed making the first Week #1 SLEEPY Hat and the second Week #2 DROWSY Hat and also third Week #3 PEACEFUL Hat.

This week I had to choose a different yarn because I ran out of my favourite Bendigo Woollen Mills (BWM) Cotton DK. I searched on YarnSub for a substitute yarn, checked with a UK supplier and ordered a new cotton yarn I hadn't used before, unfortunately as soon as I received the new yarn I could see it was not as soft as the BWM cotton. Anyway I decided to go ahead and use this NEW YARN it is still a good cotton yarn for a sleep hat just not as soft as I would like for someone with a bald head.

For this week's hat design I decided to produce a hat where you will be able to practice turning at the end of a round. The hat is still crochet from top down in rounds, however in the body there are a couple of rounds where you turn at the end. It is not difficult it just gives the stitch pattern a more interesting look.

Calm Hat uses two (2) colours and of course you can make your hat with only one (1) colour or more colours if you wish.

CALM Hat is made with PAINTBOX YARNS Cotton DK and you can substitute the yarn if you wish, just remember to check the YARNSUB website, to get the best match.

Week #4 CALM Hat Crochet Pattern

PATTERN DETAILS:

DIFFICULTY: Easy Intermediate

SIZE: One (1) size

MEASUREMENTS: Fits head circumference 20-22in (51-56cm);

YARN USED: Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK ● 100% Cotton ● 50g ● 125m (137yd) ● MC = Lime Green 429; CC = Vanilla Cream 408

YARDAGE: Approx. 55g; 137m (150yd)

TENSION: 17sts and 16 rows to 4in (10cm) in pattern stitch

NOTIONS: 4mm hook, Yarn needle

PATTERN NOTES: Hat is worked top down in the round. Instructions in this pattern are for a two (2) colour hat. Each round is completed before changing colour. Photographs accompany the written instructions of this pattern.

With MC and 4mm hook

Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch2, 9hdc in ring, join with sl st in ch1 of ch2. (10sts)

NOTE: At beginning of round, Ch1 does not count as a stitch.

Rnd 2: Ch1, 2sc in next st and each st around, join with sl st in ch1. (20sts)

Rnd 3: Ch1, *2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st, rep from * around, join with sl st in ch1. (30sts)

Rnd 4: Ch1, *2sc in next st, 1sc in next 2sts, rep from * around, join with sl st in ch1. (40sts)

Rnd 5: Ch1, *2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next 3sts, rep from * around, join with sl st in ch1. (50sts)

Rnd 6: Ch1, *2sc in next st, 1sc in next 4sts, rep from * around, join with sl st in ch1. (60sts)

Week #3 PEACEFUL Hat

Here we are in Week #3 for Sleep Hats, and I hope you enjoyed making the first Week #1 SLEEPY Hat and also the second Week #2 DROWSY Hat.

This week I have focused on producing a hat with a closer weave in the body of the hat, using single crochet stitches in a small V-st, and also using two (2) colours again. Of course as always, you can make your hat with only one (1) colour or more colours if you wish.

PEACEFUL Hat is made with my favourite cotton yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills (BWM), it is cotton 8ply and you can substitute the yarn if you wish, just remember to check the YARNSUB website, to get the best match.
