THISTLE Shoulder Bag Crochet Pattern

crochet patterns, bags, shoulder bags, v-stitch,

THISTLE Shoulder bag is based on a vintage 1970's crochet stitch. This crazy take on the V-stitch appeared mainly in summer garment design using only one colour.

LIGHTWEIGHT CROCHET BAG

I love this crochet stitch, it is easy and quick, and when you add colour to each row, you are rewarded with a fantastic looking piece of fabric, and what better way to display this crazy V-stitch than including it into this delicate and lightweight crochet shoulder bag.

I have called this shoulder bag pattern THISTLE because the colours remind me of all the thistles I witnessed growing all over Scotland. You may know that the thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland since the reign of Alexander III (1249–1286). Did you also know that in the language of flowers, the thistle (like the burr) is an ancient Celtic symbol of nobility of character as well as of birth?

CROCHET SHOULDER BAG DESIGN

I designed this delicate and lightweight bag to use during the spring/summer months for those quick outings when all I want to carry is my wallet, keys and mobile. I needed something not too big and not too small, as well as not too heavy. I just love the way this THISTLE Bag turned out, simply perfect for my needs.

THISTLE Shoulder Bag crochet PATTERN includes written instructions for a bag with approx. circumference 20in (51cm) and 10in (25cm) deep; strap 38in (96cm). The pattern includes accompanying photographs at the end of the written instructions.

ANIKSI - Springtime Crochet Bag

crochet patterns, how to crochet, afghans, bags, totes, patchwork,

Springtime Crochet Patterns

It's time to say arrivederci to the cold and gloomy days of winter, and start crocheting a few new accessories which will spruce up your spring/summer wardrobe and also your home decor.

Here is my spring/summer time crochet bag pattern for 2016. I am hoping it will inspire you all to get out your hooks and your favourite cotton yarns or threads, and allow those creative juices to flow!

This is a great pattern for using up all those odd remnants you have sitting in your stash.  It is exactly what I have done here with this bag creation.  I started with the afghan squares and then proceeded to design the rest of the bag, which took into account how much cotton yarn I had left of each colour.  Luckily I had an ample amount of white cotton yarn for my main colour (MC), because I really didn't want to be buying any extra just to finish this bag.  I am going to give this bag a cotton lining to extend the life of the bag and to help keep the shape, however it is always up to you to decide whether you line it or not.

I must admit it has taken me a while to finish writing up the pattern for this afghan bag, mainly because there have been other more important things happening in my life, and unfortunately, instead of posting this blog in May here I am posting it in August. C'est la vie!

ANIKSI Bag Crochet Pattern

This crochet Aniksi bag does not take very long to crochet, you can have it done in a few days, with plenty of summertime left to enjoy using it.  Come and give it a try and have some fun using up your cotton yarn stash!

SPRING Crochet - SCARBOROUGH FAIR Bag

crochet patterns, bags, totes, how to crochet, shoulder bags,

SPRING CROCHET

Spring Equinox is here, and the cold, wet, dreary days of winter are slowly but surely leaving.  Daylight hours are lengthening and a hint of warmer weather is just around the corner.
Daffodils are blooming,  bringing some lively colour into our lives and the thought of summertime is on my mind.

crochet patterns, how to crochet, barbara summers hand knit and crochet,

Even though I am currently indoors and all rugged up (the weather this week has been a bit colder than the average for March), I am having thoughts of warm summers, blue skies, country walks and magical adventures... YES I am multi-tasking.... day-dreaming whilst I am blissfully crocheting away, surrounded by bright colours and lovely cotton yarns.

I am in love with Wendy Supreme Luxury Cotton DK and the Sparkle DK.  Lovely bright and bold colours, very hard to resist.  Plus the bonus of 100g balls.

crochet patterns, how to crochet, bags, totes, shoulder bags,

And here is what I made.... a circular crochet bag... with a mix of vibrant and subtle summer-time colours.  I named this bag design "SCARBOROUGH FAIR"... to celebrate the colourful, prosperous times of Scarborough Faire.  Did you know? Scarborough Faire  was a 45 day trading event held yearly during the middle ages in the seaside town of Scarborough, Yorkshire, Britain.

Merchants came from all over England, Norway, Denmark, the Baltic States and the Byzantine Empire.
Such a huge event attracted not only tradesmen, but also other buyers, sellers and pleasure-seekers.

Can you imagine what an amazing spectacle it must have been?
Oh to travel back in time?
crochet patterns, how to crochet, bags, totes, should bags,

OK enough day-dreaming from me, let's talk more about this Scarborough Fair bag.  To finish off the bag I decided to line it with calico to extend bag life.  What a happy thought -  long-life! yay!

You will be pleased to know I have this pattern available in USA and UK crochet terms.  So please select the correct pattern terminology.
