I had a dream, a dream about crochet and in the middle of the night, I woke up and drew the shape from the dream. The very next morning I sat down and crocheted the shape. I didn't know what to do with this shape and for six (6) years, this shape has been patiently waiting to share its beauty with the world.
Here is the original 2012 Summer Daze Mandala.
Here is the original 2012 Summer Daze Mandala.
Update June 2018
I took this shape and added more rounds of crochet to it, the creativity flowed ever so slowly, sometimes after adding a round or two, it would sit quietly for days waiting for "what's next?"
Now today I am finally happy with having finished this mandala, although in the back of my mind I am sure I could keep adding to it! 😊
Of course, you can make this mandala in as many colours as you like or you can limit yourself to only two (2) colours, the choice is always yours!

Yarn
In 2012 I crocheted the mandala shape using Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton 8ply but in the last six (6) years, I've used up most of BWM Cotton, therefore I needed to start again with a different yarn, so this latest mandala is made using Paintbox Cotton DK.
I set myself to the task using the Paintbox yarn which I had in my stash, there were only three (3) colours and each ball consisted of different amounts. So, I had to design this mandala with some restrictions on which colour to use next.
Below is a photo of my two (2) colour mandala using DMC Petra 3 (4ply) with a 3mm hook. You can see it works quite well using just two (2) colours, and I changed colour in the same places as in the three (3) colour mandala.
Photo below shows each mandala and then the size of the blue mandala laid over the peach mandala.
Measurements
Paintbox Cotton DK Mandala has a diameter of 17in (43cm)
DMC Petra 3 Mandala has a diameter of 13.5in(34cm)
